Marin Dog Boarding – Is Doggy Daycare a Good Fit for All Dogs?

At Bridewell Hilltop Kennels, the professionals behind our Marin dog boarding program are often asked if doggy daycare and boarding is a good option for every dog. We believe it is important for our clients to understand that while most dogs will enjoy their time at a doggy daycare, it may not be the perfect fit for every dog. Just like humans, dogs have a range of personalities and temperaments, which can have a significant impact on how well they integrate into the daily environment of doggy daycare.

Here are a few things you should know when deciding if doggy daycare and dog boarding is a good fit for your furry friend:

  • Your dog should be in good health, and up-to-date on all vaccinations before arriving for a visit to doggy daycare. To provide a safe and healthy environment for all our visiting animals, we ask that your dog only comes to doggy daycare if they are up-to-date on all vaccinations, free of all types of parasites, and in general good health.
  • You should be open and honest with staff about any behavioral challenges your dog may have. Our goal is to keep your dog and other dogs safe and happy, so it is critical that we are aware of any specific behavioral tendencies such as food or toy-based aggression, to decide whether it may be ultimately safer for your dog to avoid the communal environment of doggy daycare.
  • Your dog is of the appropriate age to safely interact with other dogs. Extremely young puppies, such as those younger than 3-4 months, may not be ready for the active play in doggy daycare. Our team can help you decide if your puppy is old enough to join us, or if waiting a bit longer might be a better choice.
